Nigerian Labour Congress Directs FCT Workers to Continue Strike Amid Threats

The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has instructed workers in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to intensify and sustain their ongoing industrial action until their demands are fully addressed. The directive, contained in a circular, comes in response to the neglect of worker welfare and persistent intimidation by the FCT Administration (FCTA). The NLC highlighted issues such as unpaid wages, promotion arrears, non-remittance of pensions, and deductions from the National Housing Fund as drivers of the strike. The Congress described the situation as unacceptable and emphasized the need for unity and discipline among workers.

Meanwhile, the FCTA and Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) rejected claims that a National Industrial Court ruling had halted the strike. Joint communiques from the unions within the FCTA and FCDA clarified that the strike remains in effect until the authorities honor the workers' demands. The unions urged workers to remain steadfast and committed until further directives are issued.
