FCT Police Advise NLC Against Protest Amid Legal Battle Over Strike

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command advised the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) to reschedule their planned protest in Abuja on February 3, 2026, citing security concerns. The NLC and TUC had organized a rally in support of FCT workers who began an indefinite strike on January 19 due to unpaid salaries, promotions, and poor working conditions.

Despite the FCT authorities approaching the National Industrial Court to declare the strike illegal, the NLC and TUC vowed to resist the court order. The Industrial Court issued an interim order restraining the NLC, TUC, and others from embarking on further industrial actions in the FCT.

The court also directed security agencies to prevent any breakdown of law and order. Despite the police advisory and court order, the organized labor insisted on proceeding with the protest as scheduled.
