NLC Demands Forensic Audit of N20bn TCN Spending

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), led by President Joe Ajaero, has expressed alarm over the Transmission Company of Nigeria's (TCN) plan to spend nearly N20 billion on an emergency refurbishment scheme. The NLC claims this expenditure is being pursued under questionable circumstances, suggesting that funds meant for infrastructure development are being diverted.

Ajaero highlighted specific allocations, including N191 million for erosion control at tower T89 in Ihovbor, Okada, and N290.65 million for drainage work at Biu's 132/33kV substation. The NLC alleges that the procurement process is irregular, with plans to procure specialized switchgear from a single supplier at inflated prices.

They warn that such actions threaten TCN's financial stability and operational capacity. Consequently, the NLC has called on the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, to suspend ongoing procurement activities and conduct a comprehensive forensic audit.

They also requested an investigation into the sale of land behind TCN substations in Abuja and a review of staff promotions that contravene company guidelines.
