NMA Tackles Maternal/Infant Mortality, Lists Akwa Ibom Among Worst States To Practice

The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) in Akwa Ibom State has expressed concern over the high rates of maternal and infant mortality in the state, labeling it as one of the worst places to practice medicine in Nigeria. The association highlighted the inadequate welfare and low salaries of medical workers as contributing factors to the alarming trend.

Despite efforts to reduce the mortality rates, the NMA criticized the state government for its insensitivity towards the welfare of medical practitioners. During their annual general meeting, the NMA called for a 100 percent pay rise for medical practitioners to alleviate their financial burden.

The NMA also emphasized the importance of improving healthcare infrastructure and implementing policies to prioritize the welfare of medical workers to address the issue. Additionally, the association urged the state government to reintroduce incentives for medical professionals, such as providing cars to doctors, to improve their working conditions.
