NMA Urges Makinde to Resolve LAUTECH Doctors' Crisis

The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has urged Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde to urgently address the welfare crisis involving doctors at LAUTECH Teaching Hospital in Ogbomoso. In a statement from Abuja, NMA National President Dr. (Prof.) Afekhide Ernest Omoti emphasized the need for the governor's personal intervention to implement outstanding agreements with the Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) at LAUTECH.

The demands include payment of State Minimum Wage arrears from January 2025, funding for the 2026 Medical Residency Training Fund, implementation of the Corrected Professional Allowances Table, and payment of upgrade arrears. Omoti warned that excessive workload and poor remuneration could compromise healthcare quality and patient safety.

He noted that ARD LAUTECH Ogbomoso had shown remarkable professionalism and patience over nearly three months of advocacy. The NMA reaffirmed its solidarity with the resident doctors and stressed the importance of honoring agreements to maintain healthcare standards.
