NMDPRA Closes Two Port Harcourt Stations for Fuel Fraud

The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) sealed two filling stations in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, for under-dispensing petroleum products. The affected stations are MRS Filling Station on Azikiwe Road and Stageoil Filling Station along Aba Road.
This action followed a routine surveillance and enforcement exercise conducted on Thursday to assess the quantity and quality of petroleum products dispensed and compliance with safety standards. Dr Mustapha Lamorde, NMDPRA Executive Director for Health, Safety, Environment and Community, stated that the inspection aimed to protect consumers from being short-changed.
The surveillance covered various petroleum products, including Premium Motor Spirit and diesel, with samples taken for on-the-spot screening. Some stations were found to be under-dispensing, leading to immediate sealing, while one station was over-dispensing and was directed to recalibrate its pump.
Stations compliant with standards were encouraged to maintain them to ensure consumers receive what they pay for.
