PETROAN Directs Fuel Pump Inspections Amid Regulatory Warning

The Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Association of Nigeria (PETROAN) has instructed its members across the country to conduct immediate inspections of their fuel dispensing meters. This directive follows a warning from the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) regarding alleged under-dispensing of petroleum products.

PETROAN National President Billy Gillis-Harry announced this directive during an appearance on Channels Television's The Morning Brief. He revealed that an emergency meeting of PETROAN's National Executive Council was convened to address concerns raised by the NMDPRA, resulting in the immediate inspection order.

The NMDPRA has warned that filling stations found short-changing motorists could face severe sanctions, including the withdrawal of their operating licenses. Gillis-Harry emphasized the importance of accurate measurement and compliance with regulatory standards, noting that faulty dispensing equipment could lead to financial losses for retailers.

PETROAN is collaborating with the Weights and Measures Division of the Federal Ministry of Trade and Investment and the NMDPRA to ensure compliance with measurement standards.
