Nnamdi Kanu's Lawyer Critiques Court's Conviction Process

Onyedikachi Ifedi, representing Nnamdi Kanu, criticized the trial court presided over by Justice James Omotosho, claiming it acted like a tribunal determined to convict Kanu at all costs. Kanu's family and lawyers accused the Nigerian government of evading the courtroom, as the prosecution failed to respond to Kanu's appeal against his conviction.

Ifedi stated that the trial record indicated a predetermined directive rather than a pursuit of truth. He argued that the court violated Section 36(12) of the 1999 Constitution by convicting Kanu under a law that was not in force at the time of conviction, specifically the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act 2022, while the law cited was defunct.

Ifedi also claimed the court violated Section 36(6)(a) by not adequately informing Kanu of the charges against him. The Indigenous People of Biafra threatened to boycott the 2027 elections in response to the appeal's delay.
