NNDC Urged to Lead Northern Economic Revival by Gov. Yahaya

During a retreat in Abuja, Governor Alhaji Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State called for the urgent transformation of the Northern Nigeria Development Company (NNDC) to drive economic revival in Northern Nigeria. He emphasized that the NNDC must evolve from being a passive legacy institution to a profit-driven entity capable of generating employment and boosting productivity.

Yahaya, representing the Northern State Governors Forum (NSGF), highlighted the critical challenges facing the region, including rising unemployment, economic strain, and insecurity, which undermine investor confidence. He urged the NNDC to embrace digital economy opportunities, particularly in ICT and fintech, to harness the entrepreneurial potential of millions of young people in the North.

The governor stressed the need for a hard-nosed strategy reassessment, including restructuring partnerships and outright divestment, to ensure the NNDC fulfills its purpose as a catalyst for economic revival. Other speakers included Ezekiel Gomo, the NSGF Director General, and Moham Hayatu Deen, former GMD of NNDC.
