Northern Governors Reinforce Security Trust Fund Commitment

The Northern State Governor Forum, chaired by Gombe State Governor Inuwa Yahaya, met in Abuja to reinforce the Northern State Security Trust Fund and address ongoing security challenges in the region. The governors acknowledged recent improvements in security but warned against complacency, emphasizing the need for urgent coordinated action.

They reported that states like Nasarawa, Gombe, Borno, Kebbi, and Kaduna have begun fulfilling their commitment of contributing 1 billion naira monthly to the fund, which is crucial for combating banditry and terrorism. The governors noted the importance of a structured governance account for the fund to enhance oversight and internal control.

They also highlighted the necessity of state police reforms and expressed support for President Bola Tinubu's leadership in advancing these initiatives. The meeting concluded with a call for all states to expedite their contributions to the fund, which is vital for sustaining security improvements and addressing the underlying causes of insecurity in Northern Nigeria.
