NNPC Ltd. Aims to Make Nigeria a Global Gas Hub

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) is focused on transforming Nigeria into a global gas hub, as stated by Olalekan Ogunleye, the Executive Vice President of Gas, Power & New Energy. Speaking at the 2026 Gas Technology & Exhibition Conference (GASTECH) in Bangkok, Thailand, Ogunleye emphasized that Nigeria possesses over 215 trillion cubic feet (tcf) of proven gas reserves, which the company aims to leverage for domestic industrialization and export expansion.

He outlined the implementation of a Gas Master Plan (GMP) designed to increase Nigeria's reserves from 215 tcf to over 600 tcf. The near-term goal includes ramping up national gas production to 10 billion standard cubic feet per day (Bcf/d) by 2027 and 12 Bcf/d by 2030.

Ogunleye highlighted Nigeria's role as a reliable global gas supplier, mentioning key LNG projects such as Trains 1-6 and Train 7, which is expected to be completed in 2027.
