NNPC Targets 12 Bcf/d Gas Output by 2030

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) has announced a plan to enhance Nigeria's gas production significantly, targeting an output of 12 billion standard cubic feet per day (Bcf/d) by 2030. Currently, Nigeria has proven gas reserves exceeding 215 trillion cubic feet (tcf), and the goal is to increase this to over 600 tcf.

Mr. Olalekan Ogunleye, NNPC’s Executive Vice President for Gas, Power and New Energy, revealed this strategy at the 2026 Gas Technology & Exhibition Conference (GASTECH) in Bangkok, Thailand. The initiative will utilize a commercial approach to gas development and monetization, guided by the Gas Master Plan (GMP).

Ogunleye emphasized that Nigeria's strategy will focus on both domestic gas utilization and LNG exports, which will support industrialization and energy security while generating foreign exchange. The plan is also aligned with the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) and aims to strengthen Nigeria's position in the global LNG market, with Train 7 of the Nigeria LNG facility expected to be completed in 2027.
