NNPC Completes OB3 Pipeline, Boosts Gas Capacity by 2bcf/d

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) announced the completion of the OB3 River Niger crossing pipeline, which unlocks an additional 2 billion standard cubic feet per day (bcf/d) of gas transmission capacity. This significant development was confirmed in a statement by Andi Odeh, Chief Corporate Communications Officer, on Thursday.

The completion of the River Niger crossing is described as a critical breakthrough for Nigeria's gas sector, reinforcing NNPC's role in enhancing energy security and expanding industrial supply, thereby improving electricity generation capacity across the country. Bashir Bayo Ojulari, Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Ltd, emphasized that the project demonstrates technical excellence and disciplined execution in delivering complex energy infrastructure.

The OB3 pipeline, which spans approximately 614 kilometers and is designed to transport 2.2 billion standard cubic feet of gas per day, is expected to reshape Nigeria's gas distribution landscape and support national energy transit efforts. The project faced delays due to technical difficulties and funding challenges, particularly in the complex terrain along its route.
