NNPC Aims for 600tcf Gas Reserves by 2030

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has announced its ambitious plans to boost Nigeria's gas reserves from 215 trillion cubic feet (tcf) to over 600 tcf and increase national gas production to 12 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d) by 2030. Olalekan Ogunleye, the Executive Vice President of Gas, Power & New Energy at NNPCL, made this announcement in a statement issued by Chief Corporate Communications Officer Andy Odeh.
The initiative is part of a broader strategy to position Nigeria as a global gas hub, leveraging its existing reserves to enhance domestic industrialization and expand export capabilities. The company is implementing a Gas Master Plan (GMP) aimed at achieving these targets, with an interim goal of ramping up production to 10 Bcf/d by 2027.
Ogunleye highlighted Nigeria's geographical advantages and substantial gas resources, emphasizing a dual pathway for domestic utilization and exports to create jobs and improve economic wellbeing. He also noted the robust legal and regulatory framework supporting new LNG projects.
