Senate Challenges Oshiomhole's N210trn Claim Against NNPCL

The Nigerian Senate addressed claims made by Adams Oshiomhole regarding the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) allegedly missing N210 trillion. The Senate, led by Opeyemi Bamidele, moved to protect its integrity and uphold due process, distancing itself from the controversy surrounding Oshiomhole's remarks, which labeled NNPCL as "a bunch of criminal thieves." The Senate's intervention reversed a committee's position that had issued a warrant for the arrest of Mele Kyari, the former NNPCL Group Chief Executive Officer, who was unable to attend the committee's proceedings due to health issues.

Tony Nwoye informed the committee that Kyari was receiving medical treatment in Germany. The Senate debated the legitimacy of the committee's actions, questioning whether it had the authority to issue arrest warrants independently and emphasizing that its powers are not unlimited and must comply with established laws.
