NNPP and NDC Clash Over Obi-Kwankwaso Alliance Claims

The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) have engaged in a dispute over allegations of a plan to merge the NNPP into a coalition supporting a Peter Obi-Rabiu Kwankwaso presidential ticket for the 2027 general election. NNPP National Chairman Major Agbo accused the party's former leadership, led by immediate past National Chairman Bala Yusuf, of attempting to collapse the party's structure into what he termed the “Obi-Kwankwaso arrangement” under the NDC.

Agbo asserted that the previous leadership's actions were motivated by greed. He clarified that the NNPP's decision to field a placeholder presidential candidate was merely to meet electoral timelines and did not indicate any alliance with the NDC or the ruling All Progressives Congress.

In response, NDC Deputy National Publicity Secretary Abdulmumin Abdulsalam rejected the accusations, stating that the NDC had no political arrangement with the NNPP, particularly in Kano State, and claimed that the NNPP was seeking political relevance due to the loss of prominent members.
