Thunderstorm Snaps Transmission Line in Nigeria, TCN Implements Quick Response

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) reported a thunderstorm incident on September 3, 2025, causing the snapping of a 132kV transmission line between Otukpo and Nsukka. Although no casualties were reported, the incident led to property damage, including a torched house, burnt car, and two cows killed along the route.

TCN's spokesperson, Ndidi Mbah, stated that immediate actions were taken to assess and repair the damaged section of the transmission line. Temporary alternative power supply arrangements were implemented to mitigate the load loss in the affected Nsukka area.

The incident highlights the challenges posed by natural disasters on Nigeria's power infrastructure and the swift response required to restore electricity supply.
