No Immediate Implementation of 5% Fuel Surcharge, Says Wale Edun

Wale Edun clarified that there are no immediate plans to implement a 5% fuel surcharge, despite it being included in the new tax administration set to take effect on January 1, 2026. The surcharge provision was initially introduced in the 2007 Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) Act during President Bola Tinubu's administration.

Edun explained that the implementation process would require following a formal procedure to ensure clarity and compliance. The clarification comes amidst concerns about the introduction of the fuel tax and aims to consolidate and harmonize existing laws for easier compliance.
