Nigerian Airlines Fail to Rank in 2026 Skytrax Awards

In the 2026 Skytrax World Airline Awards, no Nigerian airline made it to the top 10 carriers in Africa, underscoring significant challenges within Nigeria's aviation industry. The ranking was led by Ethiopian Airlines, with Nigeria's nine scheduled domestic airlines, including Arik Air, Air Peace, and Max Air, failing to appear on the list.

Factors contributing to this absence include high aviation fuel prices, foreign exchange constraints, expensive aircraft maintenance, and multiple industry charges, which have limited the airlines' operational sustainability and expansion. Stakeholders in the industry have expressed concerns that the combination of high fares and weak passenger demand is creating a detrimental cycle affecting flight availability and national connectivity.

Skytrax's rankings are based on a global customer satisfaction survey, and CEO Edward Plaisted noted that airline passenger service quality is improving despite the challenging operating environment.
