LPDC Dismisses Complaint Against Benjamin Okezie Kalu

The Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee (LPDC) has dismissed a complaint against Rt. Hon.

Benjamin Okezie Kalu, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives. The complaint, brought by John Aikpokpo Martin Esq., alleged that Kalu, formerly known as Benjamin Okezie Osisiogu, violated the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Act and made false declarations regarding his participation in the NYSC scheme while attending the Nigerian Law School.

The LPDC panel found fundamental flaws in the complaint, noting that the allegations fell outside the LPDC's jurisdiction, particularly concerning the Nigerian Law School and NYSC bodies. The panel concluded that there was no prima facie case established against Kalu, fully exonerating him and closing the matter without requiring a response to the allegations.

The decision was delivered on September 6, 2011, with Kalu subsequently enrolled in the Supreme Court of Nigeria on October 5, 2011.
