Lagos Police Deny Firing Shots at Anti-Demolition Protesters

The Lagos State Police Command refuted claims of shooting at anti-demolition protesters in various communities like Makoko, Oworonshoki, Owod Onirin, and Oko Baba. The protesters, including traders and residents, demanded proper relocation plans and compensation from the Lagos State House of Assembly.

Despite reports of injuries sustained during tear gas dispersal, the police maintain that no gunshots were fired during the protests. The Police Commissioner, Jimoh Olohundar, emphasized the need for peaceful demonstrations and urged the public to cooperate with law enforcement to resolve issues amicably.

The protesters carried placards expressing concerns over past demolitions and sought justice and fair treatment. The police clarified that injuries were mainly due to tear gas usage and not gunshot wounds, with no reports of gunshot-related injuries during the operations.
