Outrage as Lagos Police Crack Down on Anti-Demolition Protesters

Outrage has ensued following a police crackdown on anti-demolition protesters in Lagos State. The Lagos State Police Command, under the direction of Moshood Jimoh, faced criticism for using tear gas to disperse demonstrators protesting against the demolition of homes in areas like Makoko, Oworonshoki, and Owod Onirin.

The protesters, including activist Yemi Adamolekun and protest leader Hassan Taiwo Soweto, demanded adequate compensation and proper relocation plans for those affected by the demolitions. Debo Adeniran and Oluwatosin Adeyemi condemned the police's use of force, calling for dialogue instead of repression.

The clash led to injuries, arrests, and a chaotic scene near the Lagos State House of Assembly in Alausa. Social media users expressed outrage over the incident, highlighting concerns about citizens' rights to peaceful protest and government accountability.
