Nigeria Olympic Committee Plans 2026 Olympic Day Celebration

The Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) has concluded arrangements for the 2026 Olympic Day celebration, which has been rescheduled to July 4, 2026, shifting from its original date of June 27, 2026. This change, decided during an emergency meeting on June 6, 2026, is intended to give participating states sufficient time to prepare for the event.

A total of 18 states have indicated their interest in participating, including Adamawa, Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Bayelsa, Delta, Edo, FCT, Gombe, Imo, Jigawa, Kogi, Ondo, Oyo, Plateau, Sokoto, Taraba, and Zamfara. Mr.

Augustin Odigi, the Sports Commission Secretary, informed stakeholders about the interest from the states. Dr.

Abdul Ibrahim, Chairman of the NOC Sports Commission, commended Odigi for his efforts to ensure that the 2026 Olympic Day celebration in Nigeria is bigger and better compared to previous editions, despite acknowledging the challenges posed by the current business climate.
