NOC Plans Nationwide Olympic Day Celebration for 2026

The Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) has announced plans to hold a nationwide celebration for Olympic Day on July 4, 2026. The event aims to promote fitness, friendship, and respect through sports, aligning with the International Olympic Committee's (IOC) "Let's Move" campaign, which encourages people to stay active for at least 30 minutes daily, following World Health Organization recommendations.

The celebration will take place across various states, including Lagos, Edo, Delta, Ondo, Taraba, Bayelsa, Adamawa, Oyo, FCT, Anambra, Plateau, Kwara, Imo, Kogi, and Gombe. The main event will be hosted at the National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos, and will feature activities such as aerobics and jogging demonstrations.

The celebration will conclude with the presentation of diplomas, with Engr. Habu Ahm Gumel, the NOC President, and other dignitaries flagging off the event.

The IOC has encouraged national Olympic committees to celebrate Olympic Day since its first run in 1987, which involved 45 participants covering a distance of 10 km.
