Nonye Soludo Launches Sanitary Pad Banks in Anambra

Nonye Soludo, the wife of Anambra State Governor, addressed students, teachers, and health professionals at a banquet hall in Awka during the 2026 World Menstrual Hygiene Day celebration. She emphasized the importance of menstrual hygiene education and the need to tackle the stigma surrounding menstruation.

Soludo lamented that many girls suffer in silence due to inadequate menstrual hygiene education and a lack of sanitary materials, which negatively impacts their confidence and societal perceptions. She announced the establishment of sanitary pad banks in 350 schools across Anambra, with 25,000 packs of sanitary pads distributed to schoolgirls so far.

Soludo urged parents, schools, and organizations to support menstrual hygiene advocacy. Dr.

Chikosoro Ofobuik, a medical practitioner, encouraged girls to seek guidance regarding puberty and menstrual health, while Dr. Rose Amasiani highlighted the need to normalize discussions around menstruation to eliminate shame and discrimination.
