NEDC Announces N1.5 Trillion Development Projects

The North East Development Commission (NEDC) reported that the value of its ongoing and planned development projects in the North-East region has increased to approximately N1.5 trillion. This announcement was made by the managing director and chief executive officer, Mohammed Alkali, during the opening of the NEDC 2026 ISO Executive Management Retreat in Abuja.
Currently, NEDC has about N800 billion worth of ongoing projects, including infrastructure such as roads and bridges. Alkali indicated that N400 billion of the projected investment would be allocated to two major initiatives: an electric vehicle project estimated at N200 billion and another N200 billion for deploying mini-grids with a combined capacity of 50 megawatts.
The electric vehicle project is expected to be commissioned in Maiduguri soon. Additionally, NEDC has installed around 70,000 solar-powered street lights from 2024 to 2025, with plans for an additional 60,000 in 2026.
Alkali emphasized the importance of critical scrutiny of major projects during the retreat to enhance their implementation.
