NEDC Board Member Optimistic About Development Commissions

Hon. Sam Onuigbo, a two-term member of the National Assembly and current board member of the North East Development Commission (NEDC), stated that the zonal development commissions established by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration will significantly improve infrastructure and deliver the dividends of democracy to Nigerians. During an interactive session with journalists in Abuja, Onuigbo emphasized that these commissions aim to address specific developmental challenges in various geopolitical zones while supporting state and local governments.

He cited the NEDC as a successful example of how regional development agencies can effectively operate when properly funded and focused. Onuigbo noted the extensive reconstruction efforts in the North-East, which has faced severe challenges due to Boko Haram insurgency, including the rebuilding of roads, schools, and hospitals, as well as the resettlement of internally displaced persons.

He also mentioned the NEDC's initiatives in scholarship programs and human capital development, reinforcing the commission's importance in the region's recovery and growth.
