APC Chairman Yilwatda Lauded for Peaceful Zamfara Primary

The Northern Elders Progressive Group commended Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), for facilitating a peaceful and credible rerun primary election for the Zamfara North Senatorial District. This rerun, held on November 2, followed a Court of Appeal ruling that upheld a Federal High Court decision nullifying the previous primary due to alleged irregularities raised by APC aspirant Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi.
The primary was conducted by Dr Auwal Abdullahi Aliyu, who declared Senator Sahabi Ya’u Kaura the winner with 49,176 votes, defeating Tijjani Yahaya Kaura, who received 9,628 votes. Abbas Sarki, the North-West Executive Secretary of the group, praised Yilwatda's leadership for allowing the electoral committee to operate independently, which he believed reinforced confidence in the party's democratic processes.
The group also urged political stakeholders in Zamfara to support Kaura and foster unity ahead of the 2027 general elections.
