Etim Esin Questions Ademola Lookman's Role in Super Eagles

Former Nigerian international Etim Esin voiced his concerns about Ademola Lookman's role in the Super Eagles, stating that he does not fit the traditional creative midfielder position that Nigeria currently lacks. Esin pointed out that Nigeria has been searching for a player with the creative gifts akin to legends like Henri Nwosu and Jay-Jay Okocha.

He described the ideal playmaker as an "architect" or "magician" who can control the game and unsettle opponents, even if they do not score. Esin believes that the absence of such a player in the current Super Eagles lineup is detrimental, as it fails to intimidate opponents.

Lookman made his Super Eagles debut in March 2025 during a goalless draw against the Ghana national football team, where he has netted 11 goals and provided 10 assists in 43 appearances for his club.
