Ogun Governor Abiodun Defends State Spending Post-Subsidy

Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun asserted that state governors, rather than President Bola Tinubu, are responsible for explaining the allocation of funds generated from the removal of the petrol subsidy. Speaking at an All Progressives Congress (APC) rally in Ogun State, Abiodun highlighted that state governments have received increased allocations from the Federation Account since the subsidy was lifted in June 2023.

He indicated that these funds have been utilized for roads, schools, housing, and agricultural support. Abiodun's remarks were a response to opposition politicians demanding accountability from the presidency regarding the subsidy gains.

He expressed confidence in the APC's performance in the upcoming 2027 general elections, countering claims from opposition parties. Additionally, he noted that the APC presidential candidate has criticized the Tinubu administration for a lack of transparency in spending the savings from the subsidy removal.

President Tinubu has rejected proposals to restore the subsidy, citing economic ignorance and highlighting the financial challenges faced by state governments prior to his administration.
