NOUN Collaborates with Commonwealth of Learning on Micro-Credentials

The National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) has initiated a partnership with the Commonwealth of Learning (COL) to create an institutional policy framework for micro-credentials, aimed at improving graduate employability and equipping learners with emerging skills. A four-day workshop commenced on October 5 and will conclude on October 8, 2026, laying the groundwork for NOUN's micro-credential system and the development of pilot courses.
NOUN Vice-Chancellor, Professor Uduma Oji Uduma, represented by Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Professor Chiedu Mafiana, emphasized the initiative's significance in expanding flexible and technology-driven learning. The COL's Adviser on Higher Education, Professor Jane-Frances Agbu, noted that this workshop marks the first phase of engagement, with a second phase focusing on course development.
The National Universities Commission, represented by Dr Fumilayo Morebise, also expressed support for the initiative, which aligns with the growing need for continuous skill acquisition in a rapidly changing job market.
