NPA and Antwerp-Bruges Collaborate on Port Benchmarking

The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), under the leadership of Managing Director Dr Abubakar Dantsoho, has announced a collaboration with the Port of Antwerp-Bruges to create a port performance benchmarking framework. Dantsoho expressed NPA's readiness to share its experiences with other ports across Africa.
He highlighted the need for deeper discussions with technology suppliers and development partners to address issues such as cybersecurity, interoperability, skills transfer, and data sovereignty. As President of the Port Management Association of West and Central Africa, Dantsoho proposed forming a working group focused on artificial intelligence and data governance.
He urged member ports to identify high-impact AI pilot projects with measurable targets. Progress on these initiatives is to be reported at the PMAWCA's next Annual Council in Sipopo, Malabo.
Dantsoho stressed the importance of clear rules for data management and the need for trust among stakeholders to realize the potential of smart ports in Africa.
