NPA Reports Major Cargo Throughput Increase for 2025

The Nigerian Port Authority (NPA) released a report indicating a historic surge in the country's maritime sector, with total cargo throughput expected to increase by 24.8% from approximately 103.6 million metric tons in 2024 to 129.3 million metric tons in 2025. Dr.

Abubakar Dantsoho, the Managing Director of NPA, highlighted this growth as a significant milestone in Nigeria's maritime history, enhancing the country's competitive position in global trade. The reforms are part of President Bola Tinubu's ambitious program aimed at modernizing Nigeria's ports, which have faced numerous constraints over the years.

The initiative includes the implementation of a single window (NSW) digital platform to streamline trade documentation and eliminate bureaucratic delays. The NPA is collaborating with KPMG and Crimson Logic to ensure seamless integration of revenue management systems.

Experts estimate that Nigeria loses N1 trillion annually due to outdated port infrastructure and inefficiencies, underscoring the need for these reforms to unlock the economic potential of Nigeria's maritime sector.
