NPA Reports 24.8% Cargo Growth Amid Port Reforms

The Nigerian Port Authority (NPA) released a report projecting a 24.8% increase in total cargo throughput, rising from approximately 103.6 million metric tons in 2024 to 129.3 million metric tons in 2025. Dr.

Abubakar Dantsoho, the Managing Director of NPA, highlighted this growth as a significant milestone in Nigeria's maritime history, strengthening the country's competitive position in global trade. The report underscores the federal government's commitment to economic diversification through ambitious reforms led by President Bola Tinubu and the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, headed by Adegboyega Oyetola.

The reforms include the implementation of a single window (NSW) digital platform aimed at streamlining trade documentation and eliminating bureaucratic delays. The NPA is fully engaged in the NSW initiative, working with KPMG and Crimson Logic to ensure seamless integration with the authority's revenue invoicing management system.

Experts estimate that Nigeria loses N1 trillion annually due to outdated port infrastructure and operational inefficiencies.
