Kwara United Fined N9m, Banned to Abeokuta for Violence

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has imposed a fine of N9 million on Kwara United and has banished the club to Abeokuta following incidents of crowd violence during a rescheduled match against Rivers United on Wednesday, October 22. Davidson Owumi, the Chief Operating Officer of the NPFL, announced the decision in a statement released on Thursday.

The sanctions were a result of Kwara United's failure to provide adequate security, which allowed unauthorized individuals to access restricted areas. Additionally, the club did not ensure proper conduct among its supporters, leading to harassment and injury of match officials.

As part of the penalties, Kwara United will also face a deduction of three points and three goals from their accrued points due to the assault on match officials. The club is required to play its remaining home matches at the MKO Abiola Sport Arena in Abeokuta, with a 48-hour notice period to appeal the sanctions.
