NPFL Hits Kwara United with Fine, Ban, and Point Deduction

The Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) has imposed severe sanctions on Kwara United following a match against River United on Wednesday, which ended in a 1-1 draw. The club has received a stadium ban, a ₦9 million fine, and a three-point deduction due to crowd disorder that disrupted the match.

The NPFL confirmed that the club failed to provide adequate security, allowing unauthorized individuals to access restricted areas, which led to harassment and assault of match officials. The financial penalties include ₦2 million for inadequate security, ₦1 million for failing to control supporters, ₦2 million for assaulting officials, and additional fines for unsporting behavior.

As a result of the three-point deduction, Kwara United has dropped to 19th place in the league standings with 26 points from 26 matches, putting them in serious relegation danger with 12 fixtures remaining. The club has been given 48 hours to appeal the decision and has condemned the violence, distancing itself from the actions of the supporters.
