NPFL Moves Plateau United Matches Due to Security Issues

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has approved the relocation of Plateau United's home matches from Jos to an alternate venue for the remainder of the season, citing security concerns. Gbenga Elegbeleye, the chairman of the NPFL, stated that this decision was made to safeguard the players and officials' travel amid ongoing security challenges in Plateau State.

The league is entering a crucial stage, and the safety of participants remains a top priority. Plateau United currently sits ninth in the league table and is at risk of slipping into the relegation zone as the season winds down.

Recent incidents of violence, including a gunmen attack in the region, have drawn national and global attention to the rising insecurity in Plateau State. In response to these challenges, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu visited Jos on April 2, 2026, and ordered security operations to bring the perpetrators to justice, assuring that proper measures will be implemented.
