UNIJOS Evacuates Students Amid Security Crisis in Plateau

The University of Jos (UNIJOS) has initiated an immediate evacuation of students from its hostels due to escalating security concerns in Plateau State. This decision was announced by Emmanuel Madugu, the Deputy Registrar of the institution, in a statement on Wednesday, April 1, 2026.

The evacuation comes in light of a chaotic security situation, particularly following deadly attacks reported in the Angwan Rukuba community, which have heightened tensions and threatened the safety of students. Vice Chancellor Prof.

Tanko Ishaya directed the evacuation, with transport services provided by Barrister Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, the Executive Governor of Plateau State, authorized to operate even during curfew hours.
