26 Injured in Abuja-Kaduna Train Collision Incident

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) confirmed that 26 passengers and crew members were injured in a train collision along the Abuja-Kaduna rail corridor on Monday. The incident occurred at 9:16 AM near Asham Station when a loud bang was heard as part of the train collided.

The Kaduna-Abuja service KA2 departed Rigassa Station at 7:15 AM and arrived at Jere Station one minute ahead of schedule at 8:52 AM. The train departed Jere at 8:59 AM, six minutes behind schedule due to a coupler issue with locomotive 2809.

Preliminary reports suggest that the collision involved the power car and a passenger coach, but the exact cause of the decoupling is yet to be determined. A total of 481 people were on board, including 429 passengers and 10 crew members.

Medical personnel attended to the injured, and train services resumed later that day, with the first trip departing Idu at 2:48 PM.
