NRC Confirms Injuries in Abuja-Kaduna Train Accident

On Monday morning, the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) confirmed that a train accident occurred along the Abuja-Kaduna route, affecting passengers aboard the service. The incident, which took place around 10:30 AM, involved the rear locomotive making contact with the passenger coach immediately behind it due to a coupling issue.

Several passengers sustained injuries, which were promptly attended to by nearby medical facilities. Fortunately, no fatalities were reported as a result of the accident.

The NRC's Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer disclosed that emergency response protocols were activated, and relevant technical teams were mobilized to the site for a thorough investigation. The safety investigation bureau is set to conduct an inquiry to establish safety procedures.

Following the incident, the train arrived at Idu Train Station approximately 38 minutes behind schedule, at 10:39 AM, allowing for the removal of the affected locomotive and coach. The NRC assured the public that safety remains a top priority and that necessary measures will be taken to address the situation.
