NRC Suspends Warri–Itakpe Train Services for Safety

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) announced the temporary suspension of train services on the Warri–Itakpe route, effective immediately. This decision was made due to operational challenges and technical advice concerning engine performance.

Callistus Unyimadu, the Chief Public Relations Officer, stated that the suspension is necessary to guarantee safe and efficient rail transport for passengers. The NRC aims to conduct a thorough operational assessment of the rail line to ensure continued safety and reliable service delivery.

The suspension is expected to impact hundreds of passengers, including traders and civil servants, who have increasingly turned to rail services as a safer and cheaper alternative to road transport amid rising fuel costs and insecurity on highways. The NRC has appealed for patience from passengers and assured that efforts are underway to restore operations as soon as possible.
