NRM Aspirant Calls for Restoration of Fuel Subsidy

Faduri Oluwadar Joseph, a presidential aspirant representing the National Rescue Movement (NRM), has urged the Nigerian government to restore fuel subsidies to mitigate the economic challenges faced by ordinary citizens due to rising petroleum prices. His call, made on Tuesday, was a reaction to the surge in global oil prices exacerbated by ongoing tensions involving Israel, Iran, and the United States.

The price of petrol has reportedly increased to between N1,350 and N1,400 per liter, while diesel has risen to N1,750 per liter, following adjustments in ex-depot prices by Dangote Refinery. Joseph emphasized that the removal of fuel subsidies in 2023 has deepened economic hardship without clear benefits from the supposed savings.

He argued that the government should prioritize fixing local refineries to reduce vulnerability to global energy shocks rather than relying on temporary relief measures. Joseph insisted that restoring fuel subsidies is essential for alleviating the burden on Nigerians.
