Nigerian NSA Warns Against Violence and Vote Buying Ahead of Elections

The National Security Adviser (NSA) of Nigeria, Hassan Abdullahi Ribadu, issued a strong warning to political actors with violent tendencies and vote buyers ahead of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections in Abuja and elections in Rivers and Kano states. Ribadu emphasized that vote buyers would be identified and sanctioned during the electoral process.

The Nigerian Police Force, led by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun, assured massive security deployment to guarantee violence-free polls. The NSA urged political parties, candidates, media, civil society, and citizens to play their roles in safeguarding Nigeria's democracy.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, called for intensified security planning and intelligence gathering for the elections in FCT, Rivers, and Kano.

The security agencies are focusing on robust strategies to protect voters and maintain public confidence in the electoral process. Additionally, preparations are ongoing for upcoming elections in Ekiti, Osun, and the general elections in 2023.
