Nigeria Aims for Podium at World Athletics Relays 2023

The Nigerian athletics team has been charged to target podium finishes at the upcoming World Athletics Relays, set to take place in Gaborone, Botswana, from May 2-3. Bukola Olopade, the Director General, emphasized the importance of discipline and focus in preparation for the competition, highlighting the championship as a significant opportunity for Nigeria to reinforce its reputation in global athletics.

The team is scheduled to depart Nigeria in the early hours of Monday aboard Ethiopian Airlines, with several foreign-based athletes expected to join the squad upon arrival in Botswana. Nigeria will compete in six relay events, having received approval from World Athletics to enter a full program.

The country has initiated qualification in three disciplines to expand its participation, with officials believing that broader entry will provide significant opportunities to showcase the depth of the relay team and build momentum ahead of future championships, including the World Athletics Championship in Beijing.
