NSC Mourns Passing of Football Legend Onigbinde

The National Sports Commission (NSC) has expressed deep sorrow over the death of High Chief Festus Adegboyega Onigbinde, a prominent figure in Nigerian football history and former coach of the Super Eagles. Hon. Bukola Olopade, the new Director General of the NSC, described Onigbinde as a monumental figure whose legacy will endure in the realm of Nigerian football.

Onigbinde led Nigeria in the 2002 FIFA World Cup held in Japan and South Korea and dedicated five decades to advancing football in Nigeria through coaching, mentorship, and technical leadership. His impact on the sport is recognized not only nationally but also globally, as he was a former CAF and FIFA technical instructor.

Hon. Olopade emphasized that Onigbinde was not just a coach but a teacher and mentor, symbolizing dedication to Nigerian football. His contributions to the development of the sport over five decades are deemed invaluable and will continue to influence the game for years to come.
