Odegbami Urges Immortalization of Coach Onigbinde

Segun Odegbami, the captain of Nigeria's Super Eagles during the 1980 Africa Cup of Nations, has called on the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and the National Sports Commission (NSC) to immortalize the late Adegboy Onigbinde. Onigbinde, who passed away at age 88, was a pivotal figure in Nigerian football, having managed the national team twice and served as a CAF and FIFA instructor.

He first led Nigeria from 1982 to 1984, achieving a second-place finish in the 1984 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, making him the first Nigerian coach to win an AFCON medal. He returned as technical director for the Super Eagles during the 2002 FIFA World Cup in Korea and Japan.

Odegbami emphasized Onigbinde's contributions to Nigerian football and expressed the need for his legacy to be preserved. He highlighted the importance of recognizing Onigbinde's dedication and influence in the sport, advocating for a permanent place in the history of Nigerian football.
