Sarah Ogoke Retires from D’Tigress in Lyon Ceremony

Sarah Ogoke, aged 35, officially retired from the Nigerian women's basketball team, D’Tigress, following their defeat against Germany in the FIBA World Cup qualifiers. The retirement ceremony took place in Lyon, Villeurbanne, France, organized by the National Sports Commission (NSC) and their official partner, Xejet.

Ogoke, who first played for the Nigerian senior basketball team in 2017, is a five-time Afrobasket champion and has won silver and bronze medals at the African Games in 2011 and 2015, respectively. Mallam Shehu Dikko, Chairman of the NSC, and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu expressed pride in Ogoke's accomplishments, highlighting her as an inspiration for women and girls in Nigeria.

The NSC's Director General, Bukola Olopade, referred to Ogoke as a living legend in Nigerian basketball. Despite her retirement, Ogoke's expertise will continue to benefit the national team.

The D’Tigress faced Germany in their final group clash, losing 81-73, but had already secured a place in the finals in Berlin.
