D’Tigress Receives Houses and Honors from Tinubu

D’Tigress, Nigeria's women's basketball team, was honored with houses and national accolades by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu after their victory in the 2025 AfroBasket tournament. The ceremony took place in Lyon, France, where the team was preparing for the FIBA Women’s World Cup qualifiers.

The documents for the houses and national honors were presented by Shehu Dikko, Chairman of the National Sports Commission, alongside Bukola Olopade, the Commission's Director General, and other government officials. Dikko praised President Tinubu for his commitment to fulfilling promises made to athletes, noting a significant shift from past practices where athletes often waited years for government pledges to be honored.

He also revealed that cash rewards promised to the players would soon be deposited into their bank accounts. Musa Kida, President of the Nigeria Basketball Federation, expressed gratitude for the prioritization of athletes' welfare, while head coach Rena Wakama and team captain Ami Okonkwo thanked the administration for the recognition and pledged to continue the team's commitment to Nigeria's growth.
