NSCDC Arrests Two Illegal Gold Miners in Abuja

The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Mining Marshals arrested two suspects engaged in illegal gold mining in the Gwagwalada Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory. The operation was initiated following credible intelligence and a petition indicating that mining activities were occurring beyond the limits of a valid exploration licence.

Upon arrival, the enforcement unit found an active gold extraction operation and apprehended the two individuals present. Preliminary findings suggest that these activities violated the Nigerian Minerals and Mining Act.

The suspects are currently in custody and cooperating with investigators, while efforts are underway to identify additional individuals involved. ACC John Onoja Attah, the Commander of the Mining Marshals, stated that this operation demonstrates the Corps' dedication to regulating the mining sector and protecting legitimate operators from illegal activities.

He emphasized the importance of compliance with mining laws and the ongoing commitment to tackling illegal mining under the directive of Commandant General Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi.
