NSCDC Mining Marshals Intensify Crackdown on Illegal Mining

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Mining Marshals have intensified their enforcement operations nationwide to combat illegal mining and ensure compliance with mining regulations. This initiative is part of the Federal Government's efforts to sanitize Nigeria’s solid minerals sector.

The operational teams, particularly in the South-West region, have reported significant progress in aligning mining activities with legal requirements. Assistant Commandant of Corps (ACC) John Onoja Attah warned that ignorance of the law will not shield offenders from prosecution, stating that all operators must conduct mining activities within legal frameworks.

The intensified enforcement aims to protect legitimate investors, enhance revenue generation, and restore integrity to a sector affected by regulatory violations. This operation aligns with the broader reform agenda of the Federal Ministry of Solid Minerals Development, which seeks to reposition mining as a key pillar of economic diversification.

Under the leadership of Commandant General Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, the NSCDC has strengthened support for the Mining Marshals, emphasizing the importance of regulatory compliance and the eradication of illegal mining.
